Job Description



The Security Operations Center (SOC) Operator is staffed twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week. The position monitors all security, communications and fire/life safety systems and is the liaison between all security departments. The Security Operations Center (SOC) Operator is directly responsible for the accurate documentation of routine and unusual events occurring on or near the facilities and maintains control of all equipment in the Control Room. 

The responsibilities required at client sites will vary, so it is important to note that this is a general job description.  These responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 


  • Monitor all security, communications, and fire/life safety systems within the designated region via the provided monitoring systems
  • Proactively monitor all surveillance cameras and CCTV remote viewer programs. Monitors and responds to all security/life safety system alarms
  • Answer and respond to events and situations received over regular and emergency phones and radios; speak clearly, give direction, and provide guidance to employees and security staff during emergencies
  • Serve as the liaison between all departments and the security department
  • Handle (without delay) complaints and unusual/critical event information to Site Supervisor, Account Manager, and Property Management
  • Accurately document routine and unusual events occurring on or near the facilities (accomplished via shift reports, pass-downs logs, incident reports, incident reports logs, or other established methods)
  • Accurately maintain control of all equipment in the Control Room. 
  • Complete "task work orders" for all reported maintenance needs
  • Inform (without delay) the Site Supervisor / Account Manager of any missing, damaged, or inoperative equipment or communications, alarm, CCTV, or other systems
  • Control and monitor two-way communication systems
  • Make emergency notifications as necessary pursuant to site Post Orders
  • Make productivity and cost reduction recommendations to management
  • Make recommendations for physical security surveys and post orders
  • Interacting with a variety of persons including clients, visitors, public safety officials, employees and the general public
  • Following safety rules at all times and reporting any unsafe practices or conditions immediately to your Star Protection Account Manager
  • Following site specific post orders, pass down messages, and always remaining in compliance with employee handbook guidelines
  • Observing and reporting all unusual activity
  • Reporting all building utility/service issues
  • Preparing all required written reports in an ongoing and timely manner, including but not limited to: Daily Activity Reports (DAR’s) and Incident Reports
  • Responding, compiling and immediately reporting all information regarding theft, alarms, accidents and other incidents that may occur
  • Enforcing client and company policies and procedures 
  • Operating phones, radios, and computer systems as needed
  • Assisting with access to secured areas for authorized personnel
  • Providing breaks to other officers and on site
  • Notifying, assisting and directing emergency personnel as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned by client and/or Star Protection


  • Must be able to stand, walk for up to 25% of an 8-12 hour shift (There may be times when an officer is required to work over 12 hours straight to meet the operational needs of the Company)
  • Must be able to run and climb stairs
  • Must be able to repetitively open heavy glass and metal doors
  • Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds (opening & closing roll up doors)
  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to outside elements including inclement weather for up to an 8-12 hour shift
  • Must have sufficient hearing to respond to normal verbal speech, alarm signals, radio and telephone communications
  • Must have sufficient visual acuity to read and understand tenant rosters, employee listings, post orders, maps, computer screens to check identification (such as company badges or driver’s licenses) and to distinguish the faces of employees, contractors and visitors
  • Must have a command of the English language that is easily understood


  • Experience with using and analyzing electronic security technology a must, able to utilize a smart phone
  • Experience working in a Security Operations Center (SOC) environment, using and analyzing alerts from various systems such as Cloud Services, Email Security Gateways, Endpoint Security, and Alarm Systems
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and teamwork skills, self-motivated, Able to work independently
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, respond quickly to emergent problems, and focus both on long-range projects and immediate tasks
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • 2+ years of hands-on SOC experience, utilizing security monitoring technologies, application, web, database and Security Event and Information Management

  • HS diploma or GED equivalent required
